Guitar Pickups: worth the hassle and cost or not?

I have seven pickups from various guitars. They have a fair amount of polish gunk and dust in the various nooks and crannies. They are also covered in light scratches from being stored on top of one another.

I was wondering, is it worth trying to get them cleaned and potentially repaired (if needed) ? Would it cost much? Note: The pickups were given to me for free, otherwise I would just assume use fresh ones. Two of them need new wires as well(I cut them too short by accident) .

I'll definitely be more careful with them if I decide that it's worth it to get them refurbished.

Thanks.
I just realized that this is posted in "Home and Garden". Not that it really matters, just a small error.

You should be able to clean the surface of them yourself. Just use a gentle solvent and some green scrubby-pads.

The inside of a guitar pick-up just consists of copper coils to "pick up" the vibration of the strings. If they're broken, then it is probably a broken connection. You could try soldering it yourself if you feel like playing with it. Since they were free, it probably isn't worth the effort.
